Overview - General English


Welcome to the General English curriculum for non-English majored students at Duy Tan University's English Faculty. This curriculum is designed to provide you with the English language skills you need to succeed in your academic and professional pursuits.

The General English curriculum is a four-level program that covers all four major language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The program also emphasizes vocabulary development, grammar, and pronunciation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the General English curriculum, you will be able to:

  • Communicate effectively in English in a variety of academic and professional settings.
  • Understand and interpret written and spoken English at a level that is appropriate for your academic or professional needs.
  • Express yourself clearly and accurately in both written and spoken English.
  • Use English effectively for academic research and writing.
  • Communicate with confidence and fluency in English in a variety of social and cultural settings.

Teaching Methodology

The General English curriculum uses a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of all learners. These methods include:

  • Communicative language teaching (CLT)
  • Task-based language teaching (TBLT)
  • Content and language integrated learning (CLIL)

CLT emphasizes the use of language for real-world communication. TBLT focuses on completing authentic tasks that require students to use English in a meaningful way. CLIL integrates language learning with content from other academic disciplines.

Course Structure

The General English curriculum is a four-level program. Each level consists of four courses: a listening, speaking, reading and writing courses.

Assessment

Students are assessed on their progress throughout the program using a variety of methods, including:

  • In-class quizzes and tests
  • Writing assignments
  • Speaking presentations
  • Final exams
  • Other updated learning methods
