Graduation project of Duy Tan University students won the urban planning award

The graduation project “Conservation planning - Inheritance and development of Loc Yen - Tien Phuoc ancient village” by Duy Tan University students won the third prize of the 2024 Outstanding Graduation Project Award in the field of urban planning.

The Outstanding Graduation Project Award was presented by the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association. This year, there were 64 projects participating in the award from the following schools: Hanoi University of Architecture, Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Duy Tan University, divided into 3 fields: Urban planning (47 projects), Urban technical infrastructure planning (07 projects), Urban management (10 projects).

The graduation project "Conservation planning - Inheritance and development of Loc Yen ancient village - Tien Phuoc" by student Tran Tan Duy at Duy Tan University was highly appreciated by the Award Judging Council for its design thinking skills, design software skills, hand sketching skills, communication and teamwork skills, critical thinking, etc.

That excellence helped Tran Tan Duy's graduation project win third prize in the field of Urban Planning (the field with the most projects for consideration) when competing with many projects of talented students from the country's leading universities in training in Planning, Urban Technical Infrastructure, and Urban Management.

Choosing the topic of planning and developing ancient villages to express gratitude to his homeland, Tran Tan Duy shared: "The project 'Planning for conservation - Inheritance and development of Loc Yen - Tien Phuoc ancient village' is a scientific research project that I have devoted a lot of effort and enthusiasm to complete.

There are many reasons for me to choose this topic, but the most important thing for me is the desire to always contribute ideas to help plan the homeland where I was born and raised".

With many concerns and special feelings for the place where he was "born and raised", student Tan Duy realized that although the ancient village of Loc Yen still retains almost intact the typical features of an ancient Central Vietnamese village, it is gradually degrading and changing the landscape due to the trend of rural urbanization. "Through the project, I have proposed many design goals such as: preserving intact and inherited ancient houses, renovating and embellishing inappropriate architectural spaces in the village, building residential spaces associated with green agriculture...

In addition, I also proposed design options for resort spaces, experiencing traditional craft village culture to preserve and promote the values of tangible and intangible cultural heritage associated with sustainable tourism development as well as creating jobs, improving the material and spiritual life of the villagers", Tan Duy said.
