1. Learn vocabulary by pictures

Learning English words by pictures is one of the most effective methods. Because normally the brain will be more sympathetic and sensitive to images than words. Therefore, learning English vocabulary with pictures will enhance the ability to memorize vocabulary effectively. You can print pictures of words and paste them in conspicuous places in the house, applying the "eye-catching" method like this, you will be "forced" to learn and remember vocabulary more easily. Another way is that when you learn vocabulary, instead of writing down the meaning of words in Vietnamese or English, you use pictures or symbols right next to English words. For example, when learning the word "flower", we can draw a flower next to this word.

2. Learn vocabulary by topic or word form

Learning vocabulary by topic is a very effective method, you can remember words quickly for the longest time. Linking words with the same topic together will make you to not to forget the word easily. Additionally, after learning the words of a topic, you should practice it by writing sentences, paragraphs or an essay related to the vocabulary of the topic you have just studied. By this way, you can carve words into your brain, and it also increases your writing ability when learning English vocabulary. To be easier to learn, you can divide vocabulary into groups of topics such as household utensils, food, drinks and then, you can divide the topics into sub-topics, for example, in the household furniture group, you can divide the furniture into the living room, dining room, bedroom, bathroom, etc. Learning vocabulary related to a topic helps you better visualize the related vocabulary and remember it longer. In this method, you can use mindmaps to learn. You can write the big topic in the center and draw the subtopic branches and related vocabulary around and with different forms of words (verb/noun/adjective/adverb) to correctly used it in specific contexts.

3. Let vocabulary appear everywhere around you

You can write words on the board in the classroom or write vocabulary on sticky note paper and then past it on the wall, on the desk, on the objects in the room etc. It is also an effective way to learn vocabulary. By this way, English words are always present in your brain and it helps you remember them all the time. Another simple way you can apply today is to change the language settings on your phone, computer, social networks to English. From very small things, you can expand your vocabulary and remember new words better every day. 

4. Don't rush to look up the meaning, guess the word

When you see a word presented in the form of words or images, do not rush to look up the meaning but practice guessing the meaning of words by looking at the context of the sentence or the illustration. For example, when you go out on the street, you see advertising signs or English words, rely on the illustrations around or the actual context to guess the meaning. After guessing the meaning of the word, you should use a dictionary to check if your guess is correct. Dictionary is an inseparable object of English learners, it helps you improve English vocabulary in the most effective way. 

5. Learn vocabulary through books, songs and movies

If you are a fan of books, music and movies, learning through songs and movies is a wise choice to learn English vocabulary! When you first read a book, an article, listen to a song or watch a movie in English, you can rely on images, sounds, context, intonation, and melody to guess the meaning of words. new words that appear in that article, book, song, or movie. After watching, you can turn on the lyric and subtitles to check your listening and see if you can guess the meaning of the word correctly. And also remember to look it up on the dictionary! An extremely important note when you learn vocabulary in this form is to choose books, songs, and movies that are suitable for your English level, do not choose topics that are too difficult and beyond your ability or your own efforts because it will make you feel bored and give up studying easily.

6. Learn vocabulary through flashcards or vocabulary learning programs/software

Flashcards are one of the great learning tools to learn vocabulary. Words are written on small pieces of paper, punched and strung together, can be made into everyday objects such as key chains, stickes etc. You can take advantage of the time to study while you are waiting for the bus or in your break time. You can buy pre-sold sets of flashcards from bookstores. In addition, you can also “make” your own flashcards. With just a few pieces of cardboard, a pair of scissors and a pen, you can create your own flash cards.

7. Make an English vocabulary notebook

One of the most "classic" ways to learn English is to make notebooks. Surely many of you will wonder that in every textbook,  there is a system of vocabulary, why do I need to take the time to take notes?

The notebooks will be a compilation of all the new words you come across in the textbook; in the curriculum; in the workbook; in exam preparation materials; in life. With a vocabulary notebook, you can "review" or look up at any time without having to flip open many documents, nor have to "carry" a dictionary with you.

8. Take advantage of the opportunity to communicate and use the new words learned a lot

Once you know the meaning of the word, the spelling of the word as well as the related words that have the same topic, you should use it a lot. In addition to writing a short paragraph, you can also make sentences or communicate with others a lot. Don't try to take advantage of complicated sentence grammar structures.
