WRITING AN EFFECTIVE ESSAY

Writing an essay effectively is an important part in English learning process. Here are some tips learners need to master in order to be successful with this skill.

  1.  Examine the prompt in a careful way

Reading the prompt carefully helps to get what we need to write about or some subtopics. This plays an important role in deciding the essay subject and the structure of the argument. Base on the prompt, we can organize the points and decide the length of the essay.

  1. Multiply the sources for the research

In writing an essay, you can use information from both outside and inside sources. Books, data from websites, videos, novels or magazines are good sources for writing. Using information combined from different sources ensures that your writing will be argued in a well-rounded way. When you use key facts, quotations cited from any sources, include the sources in the bibliography.

  1. Outline your essay

Your essay must be better through your organization of the main points and supporting evidence before you write it. An outline helps to put the points in the most appropriate place and the examples and facts underneath them. You may create a diagram, write your topic and a few lines which branch off of your topic. After that, include your main ideas on each line and add some more ideas. This way may connect and link your ideas.

  1. Check the grammar, spelling and punctuation

By double checking the grammar you used in the essay your rough drafts may be closer to the finished essay and this shortens the time for proofreading.

  1. Know how use appropriate words and structures

An effective essay needs words that fit the tone and the purpose. You must use words that you understand to ensure the quality of the essay. Do not use slangs and abbreviations in your essay to have an appropriate tone. The evidence used in the argument should be critical and thorough. In order to back up your argument and thesis, information from research books and journals should be used as reference.
