[09/11/2023] A workshop on Assessment to Learning (AtL) in Teaching English
On November 9, 2023, join Dr. Tony Richardson from Sunshine Coast University for an insightful workshop on assessment for learning in teaching English. This interactive session will delve into the transformative power of assessment as a tool not just for evaluation but also for enhancing student engagement, motivation, and overall learning outcomes.
Through engaging discussions, practical strategies, and real-world examples, participants will gain a deeper understanding of:
- The principles and practices of assessment for learning (AfL)
- Strategies for designing AfL-based assessment tasks and rubrics
- Effective techniques for providing constructive feedback that promotes student growth
- Methods for incorporating AfL into various teaching approaches, including communicative language teaching (CLT) and task-based language teaching (TBLT)
A significant strength of the workshop was the emphasis on collaborative learning and peer-to-peer exchange. Participants actively participated in group discussions, sharing their experiences and insights with colleagues. This fostered a sense of community and provided valuable opportunities for professional growth.
The workshop provided comprehensive workshop materials and resources, ensuring that participants had the tools and support they needed to continue their professional development in AtL. These resources included handouts, templates, and suggested readings, providing a wealth of information for participants to explore further.
