Duy Tan University offers programs in Biotechnology and Pharmacy, integrated with research projects.
The fields of Pharmacy and Biotechnology are increasingly popular among young people due to their broad career prospects, high practical applicability, and the opportunity to contribute directly to public health and the advancement of modern science and technology. To provide optimal support for education in the Health Sciences, Duy Tan University has cultivated a dynamic learning environment—one that enables students to achieve international Q1-ranked research publications while still in university, alongside numerous opportunities for entrepreneurship.
Duy Tan University’s Pharmacy & Pharmacology discipline has been ranked in the 251–300 range globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025.
This achievement is the result of years of international collaboration and a sustained commitment to enhancing the quality of education at the university. Currently, numerous prominent medical and pharmaceutical universities in the United States, along with various domestic and international organizations, maintain long-standing partnerships with Duy Tan University. These collaborations are dedicated to developing high-standard academic programs, will be equipped with advanced knowledge and provided with opportunities for hands-on practice within a network of modern laboratories—facilities that Duy Tan University has continuously developed and upgraded over many years. Creative learning on campus and exciting hands-on experiences
Rare and unique insect species—discovered, collected, and preserved by Dr. Phan Quoc Toan from the dense forests and high mountains of Vietnam—were showcased at the inaugural exhibition, "The Diverse Colors of Vietnamese Insects." Organized by Duy Tan University in collaboration with Da Lat University and held at the Da Lat Museum from June 20 to July 13, 2025, the exhibition featured over 100 insect specimens, along with 150 photographs and posters. These materials highlighted the ecological roles of insects, offering visitors a glimpse into the beauty of Vietnam’s biodiversity while fostering greater awareness of environmental protection and the conservation of species on Earth.
Field trips have provided students with exposure to real-world professional practices, sparking new ideas that they have subsequently implemented at Duy Tan University. To support academic pursuits and scientific research, the university has established a system of modern laboratories, including:
- Pharmacy students gain practical experience in simulated pharmacies under the guidance of the university’s own specialized pharmacists. They receive comprehensive training in areas such as patient consultation, medication administration, categorizing drug classes, managing pharmacy inventory (including both prescription and over-the-counter medications), analyzing clinical cases, pharmacy management, and staying current with the latest developments in pharmaceutical science.
Numerous research projects—ranging from studies on fungi to *Panax vietnamensis* (Ngoc Linh ginseng)—have earned international recognition and been published in Q1-ranked journals.
Through extensive scientific research, DTU faculty and students have made significant discoveries that contribute practically to addressing real-world challenges in the fields of Health, Agriculture, and the Environment. Notable examples include:
- A study on establishing a protocol for the rapid mass propagation of *Panax vietnamensis* (Ngoc Linh ginseng) adventitious roots—which offers a new approach to conserving this precious genetic resource—earned students Nguyen Tran Kim Long, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, and Van Thi Kieu Nga an "Outstanding Poster Presentation" award at the 2025 Asian Society of Natural Products (ASNP) International Conference (The Global Symposium on Natural Products) held in Jecheon, South Korea.
- Focusing on optimizing the culture environment for the biomass production of the orchid species *Anoectochilus lylei*, student Kim Long also served as a co-author of the paper "Rhizome induction and proliferation in *Anoectochilus lylei* for biomass and bioactive compounds accumulation," published in the journal *Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture* (Q1, IF: 2.3) in 2025—an achievement reached as early as his second year of university. - A study identifying two fungal pathogens—*Calcarisporium cordycipiticola* NT1504 and *Lecanicillium corprophilum* WF2611—that infect the medicinal fungus *Cordyceps militaris* (commonly known as *Dong Chong Xia Cao* or "caterpillar fungus") was published in the prestigious Q1-ranked international journal *Scientific Reports* (part of the Nature Portfolio). Titled "First report of emerging fungal pathogens of *Cordyceps militaris* in Vietnam," the research—conducted by Le Nguyen Gia Thi and her team—also received an "Outstanding Poster Presentation" award at the 5th National Mycology Conference in 2023.
- Research aimed at determining the optimal *in vitro* culture medium for the rapid propagation of *Polygonum multiflorum* Thunb (red-rooted *Ha thu o*), alongside an evaluation of the plant's bioactive compounds—which holds potential for pharmaceutical production—led to a co-authored paper by student Le Thi Thanh My. The study, titled "Rapid *in vitro* propagation and bioactive compounds evaluation in *Polygonum multiflorum* Thunb," was published in *Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture* (Q1, IF: 2.3) in 2024.
- Student Vo Van Hoa successfully developed a microencapsulated biological product—utilizing yeast to encapsulate essential oil from *Baeckea frutescens* L.—designed to control the larvae of mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever. This project earned him the Second Prize at the 2023 Ministerial-level Student Scientific Research Awards.
Many faculty members at Duy Tan University, who are also active researchers, have dedicated significant effort to exploration and innovation, leading to notable discoveries. Among them, Assoc. Prof. Dr. ... Nguyen Thanh Trung (First Prize winner of the 2022 Da Nang Innovation and Startup Competition) from the Institute of Research and Development of High Technology (IRD), together with Dr. Quach Thi Thu Huong—a researcher at the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and the International Medical Training Center at Duy Tan University—and Dr. Ho Thanh Tam (recipient of the 2020 Golden Globe Award)—a researcher at the Institute for Global Health Initiatives and Head of the Biotechnology
