DUY TAN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PROVIDE FREE DENTAL CARE FOR LOCAL PEOPLE
6 lecturers and nearly 60 students from the Faculty of Dentistry, School of Medicine and Pharmacy (CMP, Duy Tan University) provided free dental care for local people in the highlands.
The delegation went to Nam Giang district (Quang Nam) under a program in collaboration with the NGO Share Sarangbat (Field of Love), which took place from July 8 to 18. Lecturers, doctors and students provided dental care at Thanh My Primary School. This location has one clinic, two treatment rooms with 16 treatment tables and many modern machines, equipment and medical supplies.
Ngoc Hieu's mother (a student at Thanh My Primary School) shared that she and her son came here early in the morning to have their child examined. The doctors prescribed fillings for cavities and carefully instructed them on oral hygiene and regular check-ups at least once every 6 months. The doctors and students are all professional and friendly.
On the first day of deployment, the delegation of lecturers and students of the Faculty of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery examined and treated more than 100 children, performed dental fillings and applied SDF (Silver Diamine Fluoride) to many decayed baby teeth, prevented the progression of oral diseases, removed tartar, and extracted teeth. In addition, the school deployed an additional machine to take pictures of oral conditions and aesthetic filling techniques using composite.
It is expected that by July 18, the total value of services performed for more than 2,000 people will be about 600 million VND with activities such as examination and consultation of oral-maxillofacial diseases, treatment of congenital malformations of the jaw and face, basic oral diseases; referral and funding for treatment of complex dental diseases (sponsored by Sharangbat)...
In addition, the delegation also presented more than 120 million VND in gifts, including toothbrushes, toothpaste and other necessities to support the lives of local people.
MSc.BSNT. Nguyen Ha Quoc Trung - Deputy Head of the Department of Dentistry - Maxillofacial Surgery shared that this program has a very large number of people being examined and treated according to registration. Compared to last year, the scale of the program has doubled, at the same time, coordinating with many more participating specialties such as Pediatrics, Pharmacy...
Ms. Nguyen Anh Phuong - representative of Share Sarangbat organization, Da Nang branch also said that "Green Summer 2024" is a continuation of the program "Improving Oral Health 2023", expanding and approaching closer to the mountainous villages and communes of Nam Giang district.
Through two times of cooperation with Duy Tan University, the unit received support, providing students with passion for the profession, supporting modern equipment, along with many practical and meaningful gifts... to bring opportunities for oral care to children and people in difficult mountainous areas.
Previously, Duy Tan University provided free dental examinations and treatment for students at Xa Ba Primary School (Dong Giang, Quang Nam) or ethnic minorities in BhaLee Commune (Tay Giang, Quang Nam) and staff and children of Hy Vong Village (Da Nang).
Through these trips, the school examined and provided oral health advice to 2,299 people, filled 1,245 cavities, removed tartar for 929 individuals; applied SDF to 2,365 decayed baby teeth in young children; extracted 172 teeth and gave 2,314 gifts, including toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand soap, rice, blankets, and clothes to households. The team always conducts enough surveys to understand the oral health of the people, gives detailed instructions before examination, and continuously disinfects dental supplies...
