How to learn IELTS Speaking effectively at home for beginners
IELTS Speaking is the most basic skill you need to have when studying IELTS. This is also considered one of the most "difficult" skills for those who have lost their roots or are just starting to prepare for the IELTS test. The next part will share with you how to learn IELTS Speaking effectively at home from the most basic steps.
Step 1: Practice pronunciation
Correct pronunciation not only helps you score points in Speaking skills but also helps you improve in Listening skills. Only when you pronounce correctly can you understand the content of the conversations in the IELTS test.
If you are a person who has lost the foundation of English, the first thing to do is to practice pronouncing basic vocabulary in English as accurately as possible. You should learn how to distinguish the English alphabet and the English phonetic table first, then learn how to pronounce s, es, ed, how to stress, etc. In addition, you can also try applying the Shadowing method to help you improve your speaking skills like a native speaker.
You can listen to available conversation samples online and learn how to practice speaking, then record your speaking and compare it with that sample. This IELTS Speaking learning method is very effective for you to practice pronunciation at home.
Step 2: Get into the habit of brainstorming before speaking.
Most Vietnamese people, when they first learn English, often think in Vietnamese and then translate it into English. Many IELTS 3.5+ students at TalkFirst, when they first start the course, do not know how to think and develop ideas in English.
This unintentionally affects your English communication learning process as well as your IELTS Speaking test. Because if you think in Vietnamese, then switch to English or vice versa, it will make you 1 beat slower and may lose points in the IELTS Speaking test.
The advice is that you should practice brainstorming ideas from familiar topics in Part 1 first. Most of the Part 1 IELTS Speaking topics will be very familiar to your daily life, so it will be more convenient. After reviewing Part 1, you will adapt faster to the topics of Part 2 & 3 and be less overwhelmed.
