HOW TO MAKE AN OUTLINE FOR WRITING A PROCESS IN IELTS WRITING TEST


  1. Plan a 5-step outline for your writing 

In order to understand the question clearly and make an outline easily, you need to follow the steps:

  • Understand the process. What you need to find out is the two ends of the process. Count how steps there are in the process and know what to do in each step. One thing you also need to figure out is the relationship between the step with the preceding and succeeding one. 
  • Paraphrase the question.
  • Describe the process in 2 sentences. This is the overview of your writing and some details should be added afterward. 
  • Divide the process into 2 parts and write one paragraph for the details of each part.
  • Check what you have just written.

One of the challenges you encounter in writing this kind is that you have to write about something that you have never seen or heard.

  2. How many stages are there in the process?
  3. Is this a natural or artificial process?
  4. Is this a vertical or circuitous process?
  5. How many materials do we need to add to the process?
  6.  What is the product of the process?
  7. What do we do in each stage of the process?
  8. What is the relationship among the stages of the process ?
